What They Do:
- Provide strategic insight and long-term perspective
- Advise on vision, growth, sustainability, and positioning
- Offer expertise (finance, healthcare, education, mental health, nonprofit governance, etc.)
- Serve as ambassadors for the organization in the community
- Open doors to relationships, partnerships, and resources
- Act as a sounding board for the Executive Director and Executive Board
What They DO NOT DO:
- Vote on matters
- Govern or set policy
- Manage operations or staff
- Fundraise independently (unless invited)
Typical Structure:
- Smaller group (3-5 members)
- Meets quarterly or bi-annually
- Members selected for influence, expertise, or community leadership
